Part 1: Introduction

The 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450 SUV is one the most competitive offerings of the company. It is a large SUV that not only dominates the market in terms of overall performance; it is also quite competitively priced. Based on online reviews of large-sized SUVs, the 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450 is on par with the 2012 Cadillac Escalade. The 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450 is priced at $62,570 compared to the $68,320 price tag on the 2012 Cadillac Escalade. Both are really good rides and almost tie in every category we have reviewed.

The GL-Class GL450 performs slightly better than the Escalade even though both SUV sport a V8 engine. The exterior design of the Escalade is eye-catching and reviewers feel that it is vastly superior in that regard to the GL450. The 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450 has great interior features that are designed with driver and passenger comfort in mind. The same could be said of the 2012 Cadillac Escalade but we do feel based on our reviews that the GL450 is a little bit better. The safety standards of both SUVs are really high.

Apart from the 2012 Cadillac Escalade, the 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450 contends with the 2012 Land Rover Range Rover. The Range Rover is more expensive than the GL450, costing around $79,500. It is considered to be one of the best in terms of power and handling performance. It also features a more lavish interior based on many reviews. The Range Rover base model may be over-the-top in terms of price, but it packs more standard features than the 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450. For overall performance, not to mention safety, reliability and exterior and interior features, the 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450 is the clear winner.

The fuel economy of the 2012 Mercedes Benz GL-Class GL450 is the same as the Cadillac Escalade running at 13mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway. Both cars are just slightly better than the Range Rover that has a fuel economy of 12mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway. The fuel economy ought not to be a top priority when purchasing an SUV however. The primary criteria ought to be price and which features that you think will be more useful for you.
