Part 1: Introduction

Regardless of the economic recession, the 2012 Lincoln Navigator SUV once again epitomizes class and beauty for any driver who wishes to have an elegant sport utility vehicle. While other vehicles in this class might lead consumers to believe that SUVs need to be tough and rugged looking, the detailed wood and leather interior and the smooth silhouette of the Navigator certainly resounds luxury with a hidden sense of adventure. Certainly the frame construction, towing capacity and third row seating Lincoln Navigator leaves the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and the Cadillac Escalade staring in awe and admiration.

While the full-sized luxury of the Lincoln Navigator is hard to ignore on the street, perhaps it is overshadowed by the meager V8 5.4L engine, which pales in comparison to other, lighter, SUVs on the market. However, the frame and body construction is designed in a manner that permits the Lincoln Navigator towing capacity to be greater than most other vehicles in its class. However, yet again this poses somewhat of a contradictory problem with the strength of the engine. It is important to note however that with seven passengers in tow, the Navigator is more than capable of comfortably accommodating each passenger, not only with plenty of leg room, but with ventilated and heated leather seating. Today's market consumers cannot help but dwell on the mere 20 mpg that the Navigator gets, and that is on the highway. The gas mileage could very well take this SUV out of the realm of family vehicle and into an elitist or weekend vehicle for those who have the cash flow.

The interior of the Lincoln Navigator is nothing to be scoffed at, as it is one of the few SUVs on the market that places an emphasis on refining the interior to compete with luxury sedans. This vehicle includes rearview cameras, automatic climate control, power liftgates and a surround- sound system with 14 speakers on their standard models. Though you can expect to see inclusions like built-in Bluetooth connectivity, an iPod input, a DVD player and satellite radio it is nothing new for the Navigator models. However, because this model of Lincoln has been incorporating these items into their models for years, consumers note that they might have become complacent, and these features need to be updated. But, when you couple all of these features with the exterior's chrome finishing details, you not only have a refined SUV, but you have a luxury vehicle.

Lincoln Navigator SUV Pros and Cons

Pros Luxury interior for all passengers within the cabin makes the Lincoln Navigator quite comfortable, ideal for numerous passengers who are going to be in the vehicle for extended periods of time.

Pros Very smooth and quiet ride, rarely experience noise from the engine.

Pros Refined and trimmed exterior look creates a look of luxury and class, especially with the chrome finishing.

Pros Interior high-class inclusions of several features that are typically not standard in SUVs, like electronic folding rear-seat and heated second row seats.

Pros Nearly 104 cubic feet of cargo room ensures you that there is plenty of room for all your hauling needs.

Pros A plethora of safety features, like the trailer sway control, rollover sensor and the MyKey incorporation, ensure that the operator is safe, no matter what age.

Cons The V8 engine feels as though it is struggling with heavy loads, it is not up to par with the towing capacity of the vehicle.

Cons Electronics systems and interfaces feel outdated, though there are plenty of interior amenities that need to be upgraded to modern versions.

Cons Interior buttons of the Lincoln Navigator feel as though they were made of cheap materials, not like they belong in a luxury SUV.

Cons 20 mpg on the highways means the Lincoln Navigator has one of the worst miles per gallon averages on the market and in its class.
