As a low cost people carrier, the Daihatsu Materia Sedan comes with all the features you would expect with very few frills. Standard features include electric exterior mirrors, front and rear fog lamps, central locking, air conditioning, power steering, four electric windows , sound system, six speakers and sixteen inch alloy wheels with all season tires.
Daihatsu have spared little expense as well as put in a lot of thought in ensuring high levels of safety with the Materia Sedan. The car comes with airbags for driver and passengers, and all disc brakes (ABS) To protect occupants in an accident, the cabin has been made extra-rigid and crushable structures have been used in the body's front and rear sections to absorb impact. With the Materia, Daihatsu have taken crash safety design a few years forward designed and developed with the specific purpose of dispersing the impact energy generated through a collision evenly as possible throughout the entire body frame of the vehicle.
While it is a fairly unique concept, the Daihatsu Materia Sedan does have its rivals, none less than the Toyota Db or similar offerings from Nissan or Honda. As you would expect from a medium sized sedan, the Materia provides economical fuel consumption levels, averaging 32 miles per gallon, with 28 miles per gallon being recorded in the city and around 36 miles per gallon on the open road, according to the few unofficial reviews available.
Daihatsu have granted their Materia Sedan a standard three year or sixty thousand miles full parts warranty to prove how much they believe in it.
Daihatsu seem to make it a habit of producing cars with character and the Materia is certainly no exception. Over all, this box sedan presents an excellent all round package, is roomy and comfortable, economical to run and pleasant to drive. However like all characters the Daihatsu Materia comes with its share of quirks and eccentricities which the motoring reviews have not been not slow to discover and report on.
