Expert Review for Acura ZDX SUV Crossover

While the 2012 Acura ZDX mid sized luxury cross-over looks fantastic, fun and sporty, it does not pack the necessary punch to compete with other cross-over's and SUV's. The design has not changed or been updated since 2011. The Acura ZDX cross-over is made in such a way that the slant of the roof over the back seat seriously reduces passenger space. In addition to this problem, the slanted roof also significantly reduces cargo space. The Acura ZDX mid size luxury cross-over comes with a 3.7L ... click here for the full review

Part 1: Introduction

While the 2012 Acura ZDX mid sized luxury cross-over looks fantastic, fun and sporty, it does not pack the necessary punch to compete with other cross-over's and SUV's. The design has not changed or been updated since 2011. The Acura ZDX cross-over is made in such a way that the slant of the roof over the back seat seriously reduces passenger space. In addition to this problem, the slanted roof also significantly reduces cargo space. The Acura ZDX mid size luxury cross-over comes with a 3.7L V-6 engine, which is insufficient in comparison to other 2012 cross-over's. The Acura ZDX cross-over does come with a standard tow package; however, the tow capability is seriously lower than Acura's MDX SUV. The ZDX has 1,500 lb towing capacity, while the MDX has a 5,000 lb towing capacity.

The Acura ZDX luxury mid sized cross-over is a gorgeous, sporty looking vehicle. However, the Acura ZDX is not functional as compared to its competitors. The MSRP on the Acura ZDX luxury vehicle starts out at an astounding $46,020. Considering the price tag, buyers might want to shop around to ensure functionality for that kind of sticker price. The Acura ZDX cross-over is a coupe and SUV combination. The problem is that there seems to be too much sporty coupe and not enough SUV, making the vehicle impractical if you need the functionality, passenger space or cargo room of an SUV.

The Acura ZDX drives nicely, but with its limited V-6 engine, it is nothing to write home about. Due to the ZDX's SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system, the vehicle handles beautifully regardless of weather conditions or terrain. As far as acceleration is concerned, the ZDX goes from 0 to 60 in about 7.3 seconds, which is about one second slower that the BMW X5 and X6 competitors. On the other end of this spectrum, the ZDX needed 130 feet to decelerate and stop from 60mph. This is sub-standard for vehicles in this class.

As with most Acura's, the ZDX received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rating of "good" for frontal offset crashes. This is the highest available rating. The ZDX received a 4 for 5 rating on government front crash protection tests, and a 5 for 5 rating for government side impact crash tests.
